For Computer Science and Engineering programs, the Quant score is far more important than Verbal. Most top CS programs expect Quant 165+ (90th percentile). A Quant of 167–170 puts you in the top 5–8% of all test takers globally, which is extremely competitive even for MIT and Stanford.
Many US universities made GRE optional during COVID and have kept it optional since. However, strong GRE scores still significantly help Indian applicants stand out, especially for merit scholarships. In Europe and the UK, GRE is generally not required — IELTS/TOEFL is sufficient.
